 | 01:12 am - We are Venom! Joyce and Walky!: He's trainable!
After yesterday's Thunderwing rambling, I wanted to recolor some old Marvel Comics art. Maybe do some of the later Geoff Senior art in the toy's actual colors! It would be swell.
So I did.
Click the picture, where a more awake version of me from this morning explains in more detail.
Do you know what a fucking awesome San Diego Comic-Con G.I. Joe exclusive is? This is a fucking awesome San Diego Comic-Con G.I. Joe exclusive. Okay, it'd be more awesome if it were Destro or Robo-JOE, but this will totally, totally do.
2009 can't come fast enough.

 | 01:11 pm - How a mathematician argues Richard Dawkins is taking trip by train and finds himself seated next to a mathematician who is also a theist. Enjoying a good debate, Dawkins challenges the mathematician to come up with an airtight proof for the existence of God.
The mathematician, who has his nose in the middle of a difficult book and not wishing to be interrupted, says, "If you are uneducated, then there is a God."
"Uneducated?" replies Dawkins, somewhat shocked. "I have M.A. and D.Phil. degrees from --"
"Exactly," replies the mathematician, returning to his book.

 | 10:11 am - Future Tense The company here just spent a considerable amount of money on a series of big motivational posters, professionally done and beautifully framed. They are putting them up all over the place.
In the Quality conference room, where I attended a meeting this morning, one of the new posters was newly installed. Above a huge photo of a dignified-looking man in a white lab coat is the header: "Quality Will Be Our Top Priority."
I asked, "So, what's our priority now?"
Now they have a crew taking all the Quality posters down. They're going to reprint them.

 | 11:14 pm - Long time lurker Hello everyone!
I've been a lurker for a while, and I have been thoroughly enjoying the snippets and news related links every one posts every once in a while.
I have a few questions, hopefully, some of you will be willing to share your wisdom. I just finished up a two year Professional Writing Degree at the local college, and I was accepted at a university near me for a BA in Anthro. I don't plan on simply getting a BA; I'm hoping to further my academic career and attempt to get a Masters. Depending if I get that, then I'll attempt a PhD. I'm only twenty, but incredibly interested in this field. I was wondering since I have four years before applying for a position for a Masters, are there any tips or heads up that one would like to share in order to help me perhaps increase my chances at getting accepted for a Masters?
Any information would be greatly appreciated, also, Physical Anthro isn't offered here in my province, but I believe there is one university out of town that offers a Masters in Physical Anthro. Does anyone have any suggestions for good universities in North America who offer Physical Anthro at the MA level?
Thank you in advance.

 | 11:00 pm - He wants something of Optimus Prime's put deep inside him. Shortpacked!: Shouldna been standing there, Ronnie.
Last month for my birthday, my pals pitched in together and got me a complete Generation 1 Thunderwing! Though it had all its parts, it was missing some stickers, so I ordered some Reprolabels. A week or so later, the stickers came in, then I got some Animated toys, found a buttload of Joes, went to BotCon... so talking about him in more depth was pushed off quite a bit! (I toldja I got a full queue.)
Thunderwing is a Pretender!
No, no, wait, don't click away! I know Fans! is back, but I promise, Thunderwing is cool anyway! Hell, he didn't even use his inside robot guy over here in the Marvel US comics, and the shell itself can transform, so it's like he's not even a Pretender!
(Ha, you see, Pretenders are unpopular.)
Thunderwing is one of those dudes in the waning years of the original toyline who would have slipped right off the shelves into obscurity if it weren't for the Marvel comics. There he was a powerful Decepticon leader, obsessed (eventually) to the point of insanity with possessing the Matrix. He got his paws on it, and Optimus Prime was forced to kill him and forfeit the Matrix to keep him from destroying all his men. (And Thunderwing's men, come to think of it.) Despite ending up a complete nutjob, he was pretty charismatic, and he got lots of pagetime, so he's quite loved on eBay. (Thus why Graham, Steve-o, and Ron had to team up to afford him.)
Thunderwing is a Mega Pretender, meaning that not only can the robot transform into vehicle and back, so can the shell! And the two can combine in either mode. The concept is a lot cooler than the execution. As you can see from the photo above, you basically stick the tiny Thunderwing jet under the nose of the big one. Inelegant! On the other hand, much is forgiven when a toy has giant honkin' guns like those. (The single four-barreled gun he carries in the comics is a complete fabrication.)
My enjoyment of the toy's mechanics would be increased if I could slip the robot in and out of the shell more easily. It's either a really tight, precise fit to shove his tiny robot legs into the cavities of the large shell legs, or this thing's just not that well engineered. What I do enjoy, though ironically, is how little his tiny jet mode looks like a jet without the stickers. It doesn't even have a cockpit! It's just a wedge! Oh, late G1 toys.
And in a cruel twist of fate, he's actually smaller than the Small Headmasters. That's just wrong! So much for their scary Big Bad.
Oh man, I should not be knocking this toy like this. It is one of my most favorite birthday gifts. Thunderwing was really cool in the comics, I swear! That's what makes him so awesome!
I'm just digging myself deeper, aren't I?
